Swedish cafes…another outdoor experience

It’s the middle of October and in most cities in northern Europe, the cafes are closing their outdoor seating areas to Joe Public.

I tend to be a bit of a cafe wimp. I like to be warm when sipping my coffee and nibbling a muffin. Today I was outside, in the rain, reading for almost an hour. I was not alone, either. The cafe had provided outdoor heating and fleece blankets. I was as warm as toast.

This has really inspired me. I’ve always believed that providing lots of fleece blankets and other warm material has been a Good Idea. It can be nice to read stories to young children outside and in the cooler months, children enjoy huddling together and keeping warm under a blanket or two outdoors. It adds an element of fun and a different dimension to a story time session.

Thank you Sweden.
